Acid Shark is a no-nonsense grindcore band from Bristol, UK, hell-bent on picking up where the glory days of 80s
grindcore left off. Focusing on
power, aggression, energy and memorable, kick-ass songs, the band's
prime
influences
include Terrorizer, old Napalm Death, Nausea (LA), 324 and Repulsion.
Acid Shark's BOMBS AWAY three-track demo was launched March 2012 and is available as a
free download or eye-popping DIY CD package in a range of retina-scarring colours. A promo
video for the track DROPOUT has also been released.
In October 2013, the band released their eponymous track ACID SHARK – the first recording
with Amer on vocals – as a free single download, as well as shirts with the same killer artwork.
Fast-forward another year, and the guys managed to eject another two tracks – SICK & TIRED and STREET TRASH –
for a 4-way split cassette tape with MyManMike, Share Your Needles and Prisoner 639.
Embroidered red 'n' green caps and patches were also sighted around the same time.
Kicking the band off as a solo project in 2005, founding member Lee recorded demo songs whenever he
could sneak a break from his then day jobs as editor of Zero Tolerance extreme music magazine and
live guitarist for
cosmic UK death metallers Mithras.
In 2006, Lee left ZT and Mithras and moved to Bristol, beginning a lengthy search for likeminded musicians to play the songs with…
By 2009, the 'Shark had chewed up and spat out numerous local musicians who couldn't hack the pace, but
at last found its first serious addition: wild-haired vocalist Matteo Roberts, whose direct vocal style and
lyrical patterns kicked the songs up a gear. Bassist Nathan and guitarist Loz (Hate-Male, Mephitic Blast)
joined in mid-2010, finally allowing Acid Shark to be released into the live pool.
Following months locked in the practice room, 2011 saw Acid Shark cutting their teeth with numerous gigs
around Bristol, quickly gaining a reputation for an intense, breathless
performance.
In March 2012, Acid Shark put out their debut recording, the BOMBS AWAY demo, featuring three tracks of grind/metal/crust/punk
mayhem with a punishing sound and acidic artwork. The title track was featured on the cover CD of Zero Tolerance
magazine issue 45, and a video for the track DROPOUT was released.
In April 2012, vocalist Matteo left the band on amicable terms, leaving Acid Shark temporarily beached.
Following many months adrift, it was December 2012 before they finally found a singer fit to fill Matteo's
mighty shoes: hirsute wildman Amer of Cruelty Circuit.
2013 has seen the band return to the stage with new songs and a new frontman,
aiming to spread their old-school crust/grind terror to venues across the UK and beyond!
